The Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company is saddened to announce the passing of active Past Chief & Life Member Bruce A. Thompson. Bruce joined the Lake Shore Fire Company in August of 1960 after having served two years with the Hutchinson Hose Company of Williamsville. He quickly rose through the firematic ranks serving as Chief’s Secretary, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, 2nd Assistant Chief and 1st Assistant Chief for two years each and then was elected to the position of Chief in 1973 & 1974. He also was elected as Director for ten years and served as a Driver for over 45 years. Mr. Thompson was elected to Life Membership with the Fire Company in 1980 and served a total of 49 years of active service to his community.
Bruce was very active during his entire membership and was a friend and mentor to many. He was a Charter Member of the Hamburg Town Chief’s Association, a Life Member of the Southwestern Association of Volunteer Firemen, a Life Member of the Western New York Vol. Firemen’s Association.
Mr. Thompson chaired numerous committees and served on many more including truck replacement and building construction and renovation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Services will be held at the John Kaczor Funeral Home on Southwestern Boulevard (Route 20) at the corner of Rogers Road in Hamburg on Saturday, January 9th and Sunday January 10th from 1 - 5pm. Services will beheld from the Kaczor Funeral Home on Monday,January 11th at 11am. The Fire Company will attend for their service on Sunday at 2:00pm. |
